Meet Adam Sandler’s Family: Jackie, Sadie, Sunny and More (1)

6

Adam Sandler has been a comedian and actor for more than 30 years — and for much of that time, he’s also been a committed family man behind the scenes.

Adam married Jackie Sandler in 2003, and the couple welcomed their two daughters, Sadie and Sunny, in 2006 and 2008, respectively. It didn’t take long before Adam started putting both girls in his movies.

“[My daughters] make it look like I’m forcing them to do it,” Adam joked in an October 2020 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. “Meanwhile, they were asking me the whole damn year, ‘Can I be in your next movie, Daddy?’”

Sadie and Sunny went on to appear in two of Adam’s 2023 films: You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah and the animated film Leo.

The couple met on the set of 1999’s Big Daddy, which Jackie and Adam both starred in. Shortly after the pair started dating and Adam popped the question in 2002.

“I played basketball that afternoon, trying to calm down, and then I was driving. I was saying stuff out loud and trying to, you know, make sure I hit all of the right things so she would remember nice stuff, and I did all right,” he said on a June 2002 appearance on Good Morning America at the time. “She called her grandmother right after and her mother, and they all said, ‘Yeah, I heard the applause over the phone.’”

Jackie and Adam tied the knot in June 2003.

The pair celebrated their 20th anniversary in June 2023, and Adam marked the occasion with a sweet Instagram post. “Happy 20th my sweet Jackie! Your ‘I do’ was the best gift of my life,” he wrote alongside a photo of them at their wedding. “My heart has been yours since the first second I saw you and I love and appreciate your devoted soul more and more each day. Us. The kids. Let’s keep going and going babe. Lots of love to give you. Always.”

Sadie Sandler

Adam and Jackie welcomed their first daughter, Sadie, in May 2006. As she grew up, she appeared in some of her father’s films including 2008’s You Don’t Mess with the Zohan and Bedtime Stories. In 2019, Adam spoke about watching his daughter grow up.

“You know, I drive around with [her and] her friends and I hear them talking about boys now,” Adam said in a 2019 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “It’s amazing, the feelings I had about the same boys five years ago. When they would mention the kid’s name, I’d be like, ‘I love that kid.’ Now, I get very jumpy.”

Sunny Sandler

Jackie gave birth to the couple’s second daughter, Sunny, in November 2008. Like her sister, Sunny has appeared in several of her father’s films including Grown Ups, Blended and Murder Mystery. In 2019 Sunny also sang a song from The Greatest Showman onstage during one of Adam’s comedy shows.

Last year Sunny celebrated her bat mitzvah, which included performances by Charlie Puth and Halsey.

Adam’s mother, Judy, has also appeared in a handful of her son’s movies including 2007’s I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and 2014’s Blended. But Judy was super supportive of Adam long before he was making movies.

“My mother said how great I was all the time,” Adam recalled in a December 2019 interview with CBS News. “I started to believe her. But my father would be like, ‘You’re great, but you ain’t that great.”

Stanley Sandler

Adam’s father, Stanley, was an electrical engineer who passed away in 2003 following a battle with lung cancer. In June 2022, Adam took to social media to write a loving post about his father.

“Happy Father’s Day to all you dads! I had a great one. Every Time I heard his footsteps comin down the hall I knew all the fun in the world was home. My sisters and brother felt the same. And so did my wife Jackie,” he tweeted at the time. “Loved every meal, car ride, tv watch, late night talk, phone call, beach day, boat trip, driving range, baseball catch and giant family hang we had. He loved my wife a lot and she felt the same about him.”

He continued: “We talk to our kids all the time about just how damn cool and smart he was and what he would have said in certain situations if he was here. Miss that man everyday and thank him for his warmth, his love for my mom, and always putting his family first.”

Scott Sandler, Elizabeth Sandler, and Valerie Sandler

Adam’s three older siblings have kept low profiles over the years. Elizabeth is a dentist and Valerie is a food industry executive. Adam’s brother, Scott, is a lawyer, and while he’s never been credited as appearing in any of Adam’s movies, Adam does credit Scott with encouraging him to go into stand-up comedy. “If he hadn’t said to do it, I wouldn’t have thought it was a normal thing to do,” Adam told Interview magazine in 1994. “I would have said, ‘Mom and Dad are going to get mad at me.’ But because he told me to do it, and I knew that my parents respected his brain, I was like, ‘He said to do it, so it must be OK.’”
