We need a little celebration after weeks and weeks of gloomy weather. Enter: Mardi Gras!

If you’re from the northern part of the US, you may have never celebrated, but no matter where you live, there’s no reason you can’t start celebrating the holiday this year!

So, in case you’re not really sure…what exactly is Mardi Gras?

Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is celebrated mostly in the Gulf Coast region. It typically falls on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, but has evolved into a week-long festival in some areas.

The holiday is known for its parades, costumes, colorful bead throws, and king cake. If you really want to celebrate, head to New Orleans, Mobile, Alabama, or Galveston, Texas.

Of course, the most famous Mardi Gras celebration is in New Orleans, where the event has been celebrated for centuries with elaborate parades, live music, and street parties.
